I usually throw Storm and Visionary products. I do have a Black Widow that is too aggressive for my style. I throw that for fun.
On my Wednesday night executive Super league, a mixed couple league plays on the lanes at 6:30 pm, our super league starts at 9:30 pm. The shot is broke down but I usually stand 10 left, and shoot 10 - 15 with a Tropical Storm 14 Lb. I have 2 of those balls drilled 1 has Pin at 2 Oclock and the other has Pin above ring finger. The Ring finger drill is my favorite and control that much better for average - It has it's nights when I keep speed and firm with my shots - I did shoot a 792 series last wednesday with it. Had first 10 in 2nd/3rd games, left a 8 pin in 11th 2nd game, left 10 pin in 11th 3rd game, but I was very pleased with the shots I made. I currently avg 217 on Wednesday night after 9 weeks. Team is in 2nd place by 1 point, so we are clicking as a team.
The question - on my Friday night Social league (It's not as competitive as my Wednesday nights, and my team does not click together) The last 2 weeks has shown me the shot difference - my TS either one drilled - will not hold over 15 and drives the head pin outside 10. Since I'm not a "1/4 board" shooter, I'm looking for suggestions on a ball maybe less aggressive than the TS and throwing a different line. Prefer not to shoot out and in since my board play is not enough specific to hit it every time. I am an area player.
Anyway - the shot on Friday night is and has been the same last 2 weeks - the TS (Ring Finger drill) will slide a lot which is what I like, and does not over aggress the pocket at the back-end. Most of the people on the last 2 weeks have are using high end aggressive balls on my pair which I know comes into play, since the Resin's eat up the oil more than my ball does. Just to explain - my last 2 weeks, not 1 person out of 10 shot a 600 on the pairs I were on. High games for jackpots were 220 - 235, so the shot is different.
My explanation of the shot - when I throw the ring finger drilled TS, I start out at 10 board feet left and aim for 10 - 12, the shot speed is slow for me and I do finish my follow through well - the ball travels down as in every night, but at the 40-45 foot mark it makes a slight right slide then snaps, it may be hard for some to imagine that, but as in consistent rolls and break points, this shot is not anything I have saw in the past. The head oil seems fine as the ball slides well to the 40-45 ft mark, but then different break points are what I notice. I then tried a Wizard with the ring finger drilled 13 lbs for speed and i kept in pocket but high shots, leaving 4's and 7's if I got fast with my arm swing. I don't want a plastic ball, but something similiar to my TS, that ball for $109 hits the pocket well and fits my style. From my experience, the next ball down (less aggressive would be a white dot)?????? Money is not an option to me as this sport is by second passion - my goal is to average 220 and cash in tourney's. I don't have to win them, just cash for experience to see where my future in the sport takes me later in my life.
Suggestions are greatly appreciated and any comments about the shot would help also.
I'm not blaming the shot, nor my non-click teammates, I know most of the times when I shoot bad is cause of my mechanics, but confidence goes a long way with me knowing I can throw the shot I need to have a chance for a high game/series. That's why I'm looking for a ball that will give me "room" for error without playing left to right so much. Every shot has a line for all players as I have been told, but not having the right equipment, I don't think I can find it without moving LEFT LEFT LEFT - every time I move left, I lose confidence as I know missing outside the ball overreacts and missing inside - ball slides too much and does not roll into pocket, leaving splits and odd spares.
