I was at a clinic last night at our local house - a guy from Brunswick was there showing of course the new equipment, but also showed us a way to improve line shooting.

Take 3 games - Start off at Board 5, throw 2 shots, then switch to 10, throw 3 shots, switch to 15 throw 2 and then 20 and throw 3. You get points for hitting the mark and pocket (so 2 points per frame). Spares don't matter - just clean up what you leave if any.

I did this for 5 games last night. Started off strong - very comfortable on 5 and 10. Once i moved to 15 and 20, it was a different story - I kept using the same ball, tried adjusting speed - but inconsistent. So just started moving feet to keep the speed the same. after a few frames on each mark, I figured out what I had to do.

There were 10 people at this clinic, we all chose numbers (for lanes) then numbers for marks we had to play on. I drew Lane 4 and Mark 20. I had to play the entire game over Mark 20 and my opponent was hitting 10. I knew he had the advantage since I bowl with this guy and he plays 8 - 12 anyway. But - I knew roughly where I had to stand and look - I ended shooting a 442 in 2 games. I was the highest of the 10 players.

It goes to show, that playing on any lanes, any patterns, once you learn how to play, you can move anywhere and score. It's a good technique to help with accuracy and area playing. I see now that if I'm on a shot with a lot of people playing 8 - 12 which is common, I usually shoot 3 - 7 on a house shot, but now I know I can play a different line and get out of the others tracks.

Just thought I would pass it along.
