  • T-Road Pearl

I've just recently got back into bowling, well a little more than just. I have gone from occasional bowler when there wasn't something else to do, to now wanting to bowl every other day (my wife jokingly calls me a "bowling addict" )
Anyway, does anyone here have or know someone with a Storm "T Road Pearl" I've done a fair bit of research on entry level performance balls and have narrowed it down to these three.

    1-Storm "T Road Pearl"
    2-Hammer "Vibe Cherry"
    3-Columbia 300 "Scout/R"

But I keep on coming back to the T Road so it seems to be my next ball acquisition. My Pro Shop isn't any help, he doesn't seem to want to make any sales. I've seen some good & bad reviews, but again nothing to help me decide if this ball would be a good fit into my game.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Personal Stats
    Ball weight:15
    Ball speed:19 mph
    Revs: 275 rpm
    Ball:Maxim "Blazing Fire"
    Avg:138 (Noob, I know)

T-Road Pearl was reviewed in the January 2007 issue of BTM.. I'll have to dig up that issue and see what it says about it.

The 15# T-Road Pearl is a High RG ball (2.57) and a fairly high diff (.046) which will give alot of flare (5" - 6" according to the specs). Sounds like it's going to be a skid-flip type reaction.

This ball is going to be alot different that the Plastic Maxim your using now. You say you have about 275 rpms, but depending on your axis rotation (side roll), this ball will react drastically different on the backend.

However, it does sound like a good starter ball, and depending on your consistancy, this will probably boost your average, over that plastic ball.. When I find my January 07 issue of BTM i'll come back here and give you more info..

(PS: I moved your post to it's own thread since it was not relative to the topic of the other thread)

This just my opinion, but with being speed dominate (19mph), I would not recommend a pearl ball. You might find that you throw the ball through your break point. I would think a solid cover stock would work well and you should have no problems getting the ball down the lane with your ball speed. You might give this ball a look. http://www.brunswickbowling.com/blas...zone-blast.wmv Its not an entry level ball but it does look like it could be pretty versatile.

BigDawg has a point.. with your 19mph and only 275 rpms, you might be better off with a lower rg ball. a low rg ball will roll eariler and may help from over throwing it.. But it really depends on your lane conditions.. if they are dry, then a pearl is still a good choice...

The pros always say, it's important to match up your speed and revs for any given shot.. adjusting ball speed is alot easier than adjusting revs, so if you have a tendency to overshoot the breakpoint, slowing down the ball speed will help.. The idea is let the ball "roll" through the pocket instead of skid through it.

I throw about 15-16 mph with 275-300 rpms.. I'm having the most success with a Brunswick Radical Inferno. During warmup, I try differnt lines with different ballspeeds to find just the right reaction and breakpoint.. by controling your breakpoint, you can get just the right about amount of roll when hitting the pins.. And that "Roll" is far more important that ballspeed. The "Roll" adds alot of momentum at the point of impact (less deflection).

Thanks guys, you both have pointed me in the right direction. I will check out the Blast zone and other low rg balls.

          Thanks,
