  • Bowling Ball Quandaries

First of all, I am a tweener, 16-18 mph, about 350 revs. I am currently carrying around a Black Widow which I keep dull, a highly polished Equation and an OOB finish Mean Machine. They are all drilled pin up, but I haven't the slightest idea about the PAP. For some reason, the Machine just doesn't store as much energy as the Widow or Equation. Whenever I get a high entry angle, it skids too much, and on a straighter shot it grabs too early. I have tried different wrist positions, but have not had success with straight behind or slightly off on right. Do you suggest a similar approach to the Equation, which I just put all the torque I can on it, and have mastered? Right now, I have a wonderful line on the oil pattern in school with the Widow, playing up 2 arrow, slightly out to one with higher revs and speed and I am averaging around 230. The Machine is supposed to be a great ball, and if anyone has anyone helpful tips, it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, as a side note, could you rank the order of your favorite bowling balls ever. Mine would be:
    1. Sheer Havoc (threw my first 300 and 700 with it at age 12)
    2. Black Widow(wrecks pins)
    3. Equation(Still has opportunity to move up: multiple 280's so far)
    4. Blue Heat (threw my only USBC approved 300 with it)
    5. Wicked
    6. Mean Machine (jury is still out)

    High Game: 300(2)
    High Series: 757
    Most Consecutive Strikes: 14
Still looking for the elusive 800 --> tough to put together
    Average: 210
    Age: a young 16

If I remember correctly, the Mean Machine is intended for heavy oil. So your problem could be the ball is burning up all its energy before it gets to the pins. I would maybe try adjusting the surface. I would start off with taking to finish to 1000 grit and try it. If that doesn't work go up to 1500 or 2000 grit. If your still not getting the reaction you want, leave it at 2000 grit but hit it with some Finesse It or Diamond Gloss polish. If that doesn't work.... Ebay!

      Machine Again

Its just not the ball for me, at least not the way mine reacts, however it should be. I will try to have it polished and see what happens. For now ill keep my 220 average with my black widow and go back to the drawing board with the machine.
