Looking for lane #1 15# super carbide bomb

maybe not the correct forum but my L#1 15# carbide bomb was stolen from Sacramento, Ca. - Alpine lane Feb 1st, 2008. I now it's gone but it was my best heavy long oil ball ever! It's marked PAPA with black inserts and grips and 4 inch pin with pink mark on CG.

They are not made anymore and L#1 has not even responded serial regestration # or any possibilities for replacement. If anyone would like to sell one or knows of one PLEASE let me know by PM.

The SCB was a fantastic ball. You might look around on ebay but it will be difficult to find someone willing to part with theirs.

You might check into the new Lane#1 Buzz Bomb. I've actually heard a few guys saying it out hooks the SCB. I personally find it hard to believe but it might be worth a shot.

Hey there BD70. Thanks for the input - been craigs list and ebay but no luck so far. Lane #1 been no help or reponse so far also - really expected more from them.

seen the buzzbomb roll and it seems the cover stock and the weight block are from different designs. the ball rolls out so fast because of weight block carry just isn't there - at least for my game = stone 8's or worse 8-10's.

My wife and i rolled our wednesday league - it was heavy and long - i sure miss my old scb. What have you heard about the new rotogrip sd73? Some say the coverstock is now 75 or 76 and the back end bite is less. haven't seen the new ones roll but considering as a replacement. Any other thoughts?

Here on the west coast we don't see much but hammer, storm, ebonite and lane master from higher end bowlers. would really appreciate views on differing region bowlers for other manufacturers - especially on pba patterns.

The biggest complaint I've heard about the buzzbomb is it absolutely has to have oil. If not, like you said, it will burn up too quickly. Personally, I think Lane #1 has sucked since they left Brunswick.

I don't know much about Rotogrip stuff but I've heard from guys that they like the sd73 on a sport shot.

I think right now the best bang for your buck is the solid Fury from Brunswick. In oob condition it will handle a high volume of oil. The best part is you can pick one up from some of the online shops for about $100. I have one and love it. In fact I just bought another from Bowlers Paradise for $79. If you can get one cheap, it might be worth the risk.

Hey BD70, still no luck on the scb quest from my end - and no answer still from L#1 - gee there's a suprise- stupid buttheads. the scb was great for me, but the company and response is lower than whale poop in my opinion.

i can't agree more on the fury suggestion. i toss the fury or lane masters black pearl for med/heavy long oil with no carry down (shark pattern like). Really solid and predictable equipment for my game.

I'm considering the Morich awesome hook (really polished) for big oil and carry down - i saw it roll at the pro am tourny in reno in jan this year and it and the sd73 looked good for those conditions. I'm searching ebay for cheap ones.

All in all i really miss my my old friend (scb) but better find something for these conditions.

            Hey all,

Got a new SCB from ebay with the help of strn5 - thanks again for the heads up - owe you one. Played in a tourny Saturday just made for it. long heavy oil (maybe 40 ft) and i was the only right handed player on the squad. although my score was not terribly good 1211 for 5 games it was enough for 5th in the open division - but that aside - my new old friend was back and played well on really hard conditions for me.

Thanks again strn5 for the find.

Averaging 242 isn't all that good ? Maybe I don't understand. What kind of bowlers are in this? What kind of tourney is it? Also what would be a good average for you in this tourney? I'm just confused and curious at the same time. I'm really not trying to be a wise guy either, so sorry if it seems that way.

                Hey Tenpin,

No - I don't think you're being a wise guy - nor was i trying to boast about my game - just the right equipment for your game can make a significant difference. Know your game and find the equipment that works for it under differing conditions.

The tourny was our local April fools drive for MD. $30 to get in and all proceeds go to the local MD chapeter. It was a 555 tourny 5 games on 5 lanes with 5 brackets - open bracket was any book average (2007 or 2008) over 210 with each lower bracket 15 pins lower. low pressure and a lot of fun for a good cause.

We've got some really good bowlers here in the Manteca area - believe it or not a fair amount bowl with the seniors leagues like me - some of these guys can really roll the ball. But we also have an exceptional Jr bowling program headed by Rod Ross (USBC gold coach). They travel across the US for many events and place well. You will frequently see them on bowl.com for differing things. These are some AMAZING kids - excuse me young adults...

Anyway the "not bowling good" comment was tongue in cheek - the series was admittedly ok. i bowl 4 leagues a week - book averages range from 219 to 247. 219 being the PBA experience. Not bragging but you asked.

PS the winner of the open was a good friend of mine Mark L. whom has some physical challenges but is one of the best bowlers i have ever seen and was on fire 68, 74, 85, 66 and fell off in his last with a 45 - totaling 1338. he had 1 streak of 17 in a row and another of 19 (thru differing games of course). I really thought he was due for the perfecta.

Anyway not boasting and i won't bring up scores again - but i do enjoy the forums and reading / discussing bowling with other bowlers and thier viewpoints.

                good bowling

WOW! Having to beat a 267 avg for 5 games is tough to do no doubt. Still though, I'd be more than happy to leave the bowling alley knowing I had a 242 average and then settle for 5th. Then again, I don't average 247 on THS too, which explains why you weren't happy. Although, on real tough nights I'd also be happy with walking out 20 pins under my 4 game average. Just remind me not to bowl pot games above $5 with you, I'd lose my shirt if I did, LOL.

Keep posting whatever you wish to, it's a forum for learning, discussing, and asking questions like you mentioned. So don't limit yourself.

i am no doubt a lil late for the discussion however i recently got a Storm Attitude Shift (2.5 in pin) left it factory finish and it does amazingly well on Synthetics with heavy oil. i cant bank (feet/25 - break/5) it like i can my BreakPearl however running a feet/20 - break/10 pattern it holds a great deal of finish power.

due to lack of forum knowledge ill explain feet/xx break/xx i am explaining my own setup. ie.. i start with feet at xx board and my target break point is xx board. lol what can i say... ima ---> n00b

                        hey there McCallum,

not to late - in fact i'd hoped when starting the thread folks would offer comments on long oil bowls which worked for them. Thanks for your offerings. i also, love the lane masters blackpearl - on modern synthetics this is the ball i start with. you just can't beat the finish of this ball - the words freight train has to come to mind.

if you get the chance try the sd73 - i got an used one after my scb was stolen and it proved to be a solid ball between the black pearl and the scb. but i must say the scb has NO equal (so far) for my game. maybe all in my head - but on long oil and heavily carried down lanes (for us rightys) it seems to work pretty well.

if any other folks have comments on long oil balls don't hesitate to comment. always looking for other opinions
