  • Need a mid-range ball.

I'm looking for something to go with my BWP when the lanes break down a bit.

I don't know what to tell you for info that would help. I throw about 15-16 mph, no idea on my revs, couldn't tell you how my BWP is laid out. I know it's not much help.

I want something for lighter oil...possibly to medium oil. My only real requirements are lower performance/lighter oil, and 16 pounds.

I am a huge fan of Hammer and I have thrown Storm and Ebonite in the past. I would like to stick with Hammer or Ebonite.

Originally, I was thinking Hammer Toxic or Doom Raw Hammer, but I think that those are too much performance. I am now considering the Cherry Vibe or maybe the Blue Vibe.

Any recommendations? I don't know what is in that performance range for other brands. Please give me some ideas for something in that range from other manufacturers.

Lastly, I'm looking to spend as little as possible and am considering used balls from ebay or forums.

    Thanks.
    Mike

The Vibes are a good choice. The Cherry may be a touch stronger than the Blue.

you might consider the storm sure fire. good med oil ball with a slightly aggressive backend - however it's very forgiving. it doesn't have that skid flip tendency that some dry balls can have.

you might also consider the lane masters hornet with a 1200-2000 finish. This is a solid performer with proven track record. This ones a bit more aggressive than the sure fire.

I went to talk to my pro shop guy (Bob). We discussed the Hornet and the Vibes. Having him as my pro shop guy for most of my bowling "career," I trust him. He recommended the Tropical Storm. I did some looking and it's definitely more of what I wanted. Now, he knows how well my Hammer balls work for me (Reaper, BWP, and Everclear), but he thought this would be better for me.

I went with his recommendation as I almost always do (again, I've been extremely happy with 5 or 6 balls he's done for me so far...Everclear, BWP, Reaper, El Nino 2000, Tidal Wave Wipe Out, others??).

He ordered it today and he has a day wait because he keeps NO inventory on hand. Helps keep his prices down. He'll have it done for me by 2:30 tomorrow. It's going to be drilled "Label" Leverage for maximum length and a strong back end. It's a cross between the #1 and #2 layout from Storm.

I'll post up how it turns out for me. I'm going to try it for a game or two on wood, then on synthetic before I pre-bowl for my Sunday league that doesn't want to skip Easter Sunday.

Thanks for all your input everyone, I appreciate it.
