Hello everyone...
I could use the wisdom of some follow bowlers...

In an effort to get a good cleaning and possibly remove some oil from my bowling balls, I did the "dawn and hot water" thing. OMG! I never saw sooooo much oil...
Anyway, my question is 1) how long do the balls need to air dry before I should use them? and 2) what is the most effective way to get them dry?

Right now they are sitting on a towel in the bathroom...

Any suggestions or wisdom from you would be MOST appreciated!

Just toss em in the clothes dryer on "permanent Press" then run like he**!!!

Seriously, I alway try to cover the holes w/ duct tape or similar to keep as much water out as possible. If that doesn't work just lay them out on a towel holes down over night and you should be good to go. One trick I have learned is to cut the bottom out of my finger inserts before I put them in. That way water is less likely to get trapped under them.

how long do U leave in the hot water and dawn soap bath? (2) do U do it in the sink or bucket? (3) do use hot tap water or boiling water? the reason I ask is I never done that and was wondering if that really works. thks wm

I use the bathtub. You want the water hot but not scalding. I would just use common sense and say that if you can't stick your hand in the water its probably too hot. If you use water thats too hot you run the risk of cracking the cover stock or separating the core.

Probably the best way to deal with it is not let them get that way in the 1st place. Whats the old saying "a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"? If you take a few min after you bowl and clean your stuff you won't have near the problems. I also find that keeping a light coat of polish on a ball will slow down oil absorption. Think about the rain drops on a freshly waxed car.

thks. I just wanted to know because I have a ball that I got at garge sale. and wanted to see how much oil wason it because the person i got from said he never cleaned the bowling ball. its ebonite matrix tps III.

If you washed the balls today, they'd be ready to go tomorrow.
Most cover the holes with tape or something. But you can also just point the holes down and the air trapped in them will keep most of the water out.

when I took them out of the water, I laid the balls holes down...hopefully they will be ready by Thursday night! THANKS for all the advice...

For some reason, the thought of someone breaking their arse when they fell in the tub (because of the oil residue left in it) to take their shower suddenly occured to me. Wouldn't that be ebarassing to have to call 911 to take your neked boody to the ER, LOL. I guess it would be best to take care of it before that happens. Could save someone a divorce or at the min, retribution of some sort.

Hay thanks topdog that really works. I seen it in the other post you and the other guy have similar methods but both seem to work. I kinda used alittle of both methods but - My Ball Acts Like New Again

You are very welcome bowlerman - I use it on my ebonite one more often then recommended because it really soaks up oil. Then apply polish, heck the last time I did it I bowled 300 then the next week I bowled 823 after doing this. It went straight as an arrow before that.
