  • How did everyone's first week go?

Well the fall season started this week and continues to begin thru Monday. Hope everyone bowled well and has a full team. I bowled like crap, shot 200 and then fell apart with a 123 & 132. Bowling on wood for the first time in a while. Will have to get out and practice a little on it. But the season is long and I know I will adjust and be there big time!

I drew lucky team# 13.. lol.. which of course means I bowled on my least favorite pair.. My stats show that 13 & 14 one usually my worst pair.. Shot 206, 201, 204.. Just couldn't get more than a double. Only had two opens the whole night.. left a 4-6 split in the first game and missed a 10-pin in the last game.. So i'm satisfied..

    High Series: 806
    High Games: 300 (3), 299 (2), 11 in a row

Not a bad start. We started the season on a pair that was not bowled on during the early league so we had a nice shot. I shot 202-248-171. I left 3 splits in a row on the left lane and just couldn't seem to recover the 3rd game.

I didn't do too bad. 192, 192, 178. Considering I am now using a "real" bowling ball (storm) instead of the $15 K-Mart special (plastic) I have been using for years. I was carrying about a 172 average with the plastic ball and everyone kept telling me that if I would go out and get a "real" ball I probably could increase my average about 10 pins. Now the challenge is learning to control a ball that has a bit of a hook on the back end. I wasn't disappointed with the first night.

            Started off Great!

I just joined an executive league - 60% of bowlers are 200 and above, got on a great team with great chemistry. Started off the year with 246, 246, and 247. I even threw my last ball faster and wider to wrap the 10, but it carried - when does that happen? had the high series in house, won $170 in jackpot, so a few weeks are paid for. Hope I can keep it up - usually around 210 - but have a bowling coach that is helping and made a difference (when I listen).

well, i'm in 4 leagues this fall/winter. Tues, Wed, Sat and Sun, and i ended this summer w/ a 181 avg. Tuesday is a 2nd shift league and i only shot a 535 (178 avg) Wed and Sat i bowled really well especially Wed with a 667 (222 avg). Sat was a 606 (202 avg) my last league starts tonight and is a Cosmic League. i think i ended last year with a 187 or so in that league, so we'll see how i do.

How the hell can you bowl in 4 leagues??? I bowl in one and my thumb needs 4 days to heal when I'm done!!! I'd like to do two leagues, but I have thumb issues. Can't do it. My first week was not too good. First time in 4 years on synthetics. Bought a Hammer/Black Widow back in March while I was still on wood, so as you can imagine, I needed to make huge adjustments this past week. The good thing is that I progressed. . .148, 189 & 214. I'm a 191 avg. and my goal is to be a solid 200 avg this year.
                Good luck all!!!

                  RE: thumb issues

I can't say for sure what the issue is with your thumb, but I would suggest that you get a second medical opinion from an experienced driller. I would have span and pitches checked out. Also if your driller just drilled your thumb hole with a drill bit and just sanded it a little with the little round disc that could be a major problem. No one has a thumb shaped like a drill bit. The thumb hole must be custom adjusted after drilling the hole with the bit. My guy actually takes a micrometer and measures the thumb from a few perspectives and then adjusts the hole to those measurements. And let me tell you it fits like it was made just for my thumb. The drill bit is perfectly round and symmetrical, but no one's thumb is that way. I cringe when I see people drill a thumb hole and just sand it a little and bevel the edge of the hole!

There are also molds that can be made of your thumb and from these custom thumb inserts can be made. Always remember this: anyone can drill a hole in a ball, but when you pay a driller you are paying them for their knowledge and expertise not their labor!

Well Just got home from bowling in my third league. I shot 224, 153, 175 for a 552 series. So I am trying to get that league up to keep a 200 avg. in all three leagues. Also, can anyone help me in setting up my score tracker? Thanks

I bowl in three leagues. Week one was a bit of a challenge because of overlapping seasons between baseball and bowling. I put up a dissapointing 143, 179, 196 (172 avg) for the Wednesday league. I was about average Thursday with a 191, 178, 217 (195 avg). Sunday I bowled great and put up a 226, 219, 194, 247 (221 avg).

My goal for this year is to get all 3 leagues up over 200, and maintain consistancy.

                          Struggled some what

I myself had a hard time actually and quite happy it wasn't any worse than it was. Had a 215-138-181-218 for a 752 and a 188 avg. I knew I had trouble early on when the lanes started to break down toward the end of the first game, the ball just wanted to make a hard left. In the second game I ended up with 4 splits (2-4,6,7,10, a 4-9, and a 4-6) out of my 5 splits that night and 2 or 3 strikes that game. So, of course, I made a few adjustments and slowly started to get the correct angle into the pocket again. The line was way out of my comfort zone for the line I am use to using, but hey it's the way of the game. Just hope they decide to use more oil on the lanes next week. If they don't though, I know what I'm going to do early on this time and hopefully not be so lost for 2 games. Right Ed, LOL.
Be very, very, quiet please, I'm hunting ten pins and it's easier when they're not spooked

                            2nd league

Came back Sunday with a respectable 616 series: 226, 200 & 190. This on synthetic which I love. I bowl almost exclusively on synthetic, there are only 2-3 centers in my metropolitan area still wood only. I am going out Wednesday to Baker Lanes and practice on the wood as they got the better of me Friday night. Bowled a 200, 123 & 132 on the wood. I am bringing my old Champions Pearl Warhawk this Friday to the wood lanes just in case they break down as bad as they did last week. We will see what happens.

we'll be on week 4 this Wednesday. I started out alight. shot a 591 the first week which put me at a 197 avg. which is higher a lot higher than my whole last season of 174 avg. the second week I shot a my 2nd career 700 series with a 705 which put me at a 216 avg. then on week 3 I shot a 649 in which I hit my avg by 1 pin which is alright with me. so I'm off to a great start this year. hopefully I can continue it. I'll see if I can on wednesday night.
