Without actually seeing what you are doing, I can see several things you might want to check out.

        1) Are your feet and swing in time with each other?
        2) Are you forcing the arm swing?
        3) Does your arm move around behind you or do you follow straight through?
        4) Are you moving to fast to the foul line?
        5) Are you drifting from your start to your finnish on the approach?
        6) Does your equipment fit right?

And the list can go on and on. Your best bet to actually figure your problem out is to get the house Pro, a coach, or a real good bowler (200+) you can trust to help you.

I myself, go through a check list (I have one for when I strugle or do good) or ask a few friends what I might be doing wrong. Simple basics always brings me back when I'm in a pinch, won't always get high scores, but hey, when you strugle you do what you can to preserve your sanity.
Be very, very, quiet please, I'm hunting ten pins and it's easier when they're not spooked

Not having watched you, can only suggest based on my "misses" and usually it is in my timing or arm swing. Keeping my elbow tucked in tight and locked as I swing thru keeps my target true. If my timing is off I tend to wander towards my mark and hence, on follow thru miss my mark and pull the ball to the right.

No one ever won by making excuses. I work hard to bowl good, then work harder to bowl better.

The other thing you can do is stop trying to hit a "mark" be it a board, arrow or reflection etc and learn to play an area. I've found that when I focus too much on hitting a particular board or arrow it causes me to tense up and make the problem even worse.
I have never seen a shot that requires you to hit the 4 board @ 45' in order to strike. More realistically its getting the ball somewhere between the 4 and 8 board @ 45' to strike. Most league shots are even more forgiving than that. I say instead of beating yourself up trying to hit a certain board, just relax and develop a consistent arm swing and release. Those 2 things will help you score better than just being accurate in my opinion.

Bigdawg is right on that - The house pro where I bowl at in Ohio tells me the same thing - accuracy comes from your arm and feet, feeling relaxed and hitting an area is more important than straining for 1 board. If we all could hit 1 board - wouldn't we be know as PRO???? I headed this advice and improvement by 25 pins from last year thus far. Look for the inside hold and the outside break points - stay within that area - but be firm with your shots and follow through -

I agree with bigdawg, I usually carry between a 195 and 205 average and I probably hit my board 5 to 10 times a night. I try and get it close. I try and concentrate more on my release and follow through then I do hitting a spot. When I try to hard to hit my spot, I usually slow the ball up and it ends up diving into the headpin.

I do the same as joebud; I look 5 boards left of my mark. Also, you might want to check your pushaway (If you have one. Some bowlers don't). If you have a pushaway, when your arm is fully extended in front of you, make sure your ball lines up with your mark. If you push away too far right or left, stop and start again.
