  • Bowling ramp

I am in a wheelchair due to spina bifida.

And since I have been bowling, I have always used a ramp. But I can never seem to get the desired spin or anything from my ball.

Is there any advice I can get in order to get a better game going this season while using this ramp?

I've never used a ramp, but I doubt there is anyway to impart spin on the ball using one.. You probablly already know some of this, but I'll post it for completeness.

Your best bet with a ramp is to position it as close to the gutter as possible.. that will give you the most angle of entry and will improve the odds of getting strikes when hitting the pocket.

Also, (and this may be obvious) make sure you always place the ball on the ramp exactly the same way every time.. (ie.. don't have the finger holes pointing up one time and to the side the next..).. The position of the weight block may allow the ball to hook slightly, and placing it exactly the same will increase the consistancy. And practice with different placements to see what works better.. The ball will only be rolling when it hits the pins,, but if you can get even just a slight hook, that will increase the entry angle.. and every little bit will help..

You will get the most consistant ballspeed by letting the ball roll down the ramp on it's own (w/o a push), however, it may be worth practicing with a little push to increase ball speed. But try to be as consistant as possible..

I don't know if this is a possilbity for you, but I once saw a guy in a wheel chair, roll up to the foul line, lock the wheels and swing the ball along the chair. And he was pretty darn good at it.. I think his average was around 180..

Hope this helps.. You might also want to ask your pro-shop operator for advice..

    Cheers,
    James

Oh.. one more thing.. when using a ramp, a heaveir ball is probably better.. It will deflect less when rolling through the pins..
