I'm looking for a ball spinner or type of equipment to help keep my balls lasting as long as they can for home use. I am willing to spend $1000 on the equipment - but I'm not sure really what I would need or could use without a lot of training techniques.

Any suggestions - I have polished a few balls by hand, but an hour later I think it's done and I still have polish marks on the ball when I get to the lanes and I think this is causing inconsistencies in that ball I throw. I do concentrate only on my track line which is about 1.5 - 3" left of fingers and 1 - 2 " left of Thumb so I know my forward roll is where it should be.

I've getting 2 more balls this summer to play in 1 sports league, and 1 PBA experience league. I figured I am getting the same balls I have but pinned under the fingers to get early roll. Just from what I saw others playing - I have to start somewhere.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jonathan

I have the Donkee ¾hp spinner and it works quite well. It has 2 speeds, 450rpm and 650rpm. I've found the higher speed pretty useless because of the vibration of the core rotating makes the spinner want to walk off the work bench.

A word of advise.. I put mine inside of a 30gal tub type container and it keeps the mess pretty well contained. Wet sanding can get pretty messy.

Where could I obtain one? I guess I should have clarified that I was searching for one. Also - can the spinner be used for polishing and sanding? It sounds like your repsonse states yes both???

        Here ya go http://www.donkee.com/spinner.htm

Yes you can use it for both. It really makes cleaning them a snap. You can get your ball super clean in about 30 sec per side. It definitely one of those things that will make you wonder how you ever did with out one.

          Spinners

I have had a spinner at home now for over 5 years and recommend it to everyone that wants to keep there equipment in good condition. I boought one from innovative bowling. I have also looked at what vertexmold has. I would reccomend any of these along with the donkey product. So do your shopping wisely. The vertexmold.com web sight gives you directions on how to use a spinner. Good Luck shopping.

I have heard that the Donkee's vibrate alot. Innovative spinners are excellent but pricy. They are more for the pro shop that need something more industrial. For personal use I recommend the Vertex 1/2 HP. You can also get the optional foot petal.

Buddies has them with free shipping.

Like I said the Donkee spinner I have only vibrates on the highest speed. I think it has more to with the imbalance in the ball than the spinner itself.

                Ball Spinner

Don't know much about this brand, but the pricing is competitive.

Maybe someone else as experience or info on this brand.

Here's a link to a company that I often buy bowling supplies from. They list an assortment of products and can give you a gauge on a price range by name brand.

I ordered the 5-Pin Ball Spinner 1/2 HP with foot pedal Vertexmold - I'll need to learn how to use it quickly, as the PBA leagues begin end of May. All 5 PBA patterns in 10 weeks, 2 weeks each then 3 tournament nights with 3 random patterns. I have 2 balls that I will experiment with - just don't want to screw up my new equipment. Thanks all for the links, made it easier to see what i was getting and somewhat understand them more.

As far learning to use your new spinner.... Not really rocket science. You will want to invest in some abralon pads in 1000, 2000, 3000 and maybe 4000. Scotch brite pads work well for anything under 1000grit. You can pick those up at most hardware stores and they are pretty cheap. White is about 1000 to 1200 grit, grey is 800, green is 600 grit and burgundy 400 grit approximately. If all else fails, there is alway good ol' wet/dry sand paper from 3m. That stuff works well for refinishing your surface i.e. removing deeper track marks etc. I start with 230 grit paper and work my way up to the desired finish.

Just remember to work on the ball as if it were square (6 sides). That way you will put an even surface on the entire ball. You can try different things like sanding 90deg to your track to add more traction or sand the same direction as your track to give a little more length.

Don't be afraid to try different things. You might stumble onto something that works well for you. I know a guy that swears by using a green scotch brite then polishing over that so the deeper sanding lines remain but the lighter ones are polished out. He claims the polish gets the ball through the heads but the sand lines help mid lane recovery.

Have fun and let us know how you make out with it.
