How much (percentage) does everyone think the backswing plays into their game. During the summer, i video taped myself and watched it over and over again - trying to find out the "funk" of when I make my bad shots, what I am doing.

I watched good ole Ernie Schlegel, I roll like he does (but not as consistent) - and his backswing is not very high at all. I then watched Chris barnes and Brian Himmler - their backswings are big. Got me thinking, so I attempted to shorten my backswing from the same starting position, and boy is that hard to do. Mentally hard to change routine - so after a few days and nights of attempts, I researched the internet and found others on some sites stating slower backswings - shorter backswings. I tried that, and wow, it made a huge difference. I really can't say how much less my backswing is - but from the video tape before/after, I can see the difference.

It's almost like I was forcing the ball through front to back and back to front (timing was off) which forced me to come back to front even more faster when I was getting tired.

I shot 4 games that day, 240 and better, the shot was broken down, through my green vibe and it carried. I did get away with a few pull shots and tripped the 4 a bunch of times, but I was in the pocket consistently and even after I got tired, I kept throwing the 4 games without stopping, about 3 - 5 minutes inbetween each frame. working on building my endurance too.

I think it's the free arm swing that has the highest percentage.

A lot of bowler's think they need that high back swing to get the power. Then they try to force the back swing and it cause's them to tighten up their arm swing up.

I've been working on keeping my arm swing free and I believe it's starting to payoff. I'm projecting the ball toward my target better and I think I've increased my speed & rev's somewhat also.
My back swing has never been high, but with the freer arm swing. I feel it's going to a more natural height in relation to the swings starting point and not feeling forced.

I agree with that - freearm is more closer to what I am trying to do. The backswing is looking different from before, but I'm not forcing the lower stopping point.

I shot last night, had to throw my old Storm (only ball I had with span that was better) and go 223, 231, 216. I felt much better staying behind the ball longer, not dropping it or getting out of to quickly. Was much more consistent in hitting mark - only missed pocket once - was watching something other then my mark -
