  • I need Consistency Help NOW

    hey all,

I just really started getting into bowling about 5 weeks ago. My current average sits around 145 and I want to get better. I just notice that i have no real consistency in my release. Is there any tips you guys could put my way???

Since you are new to the sport the best tip I can offer is to find a good coach to help you with your mechanics before you develop too many bad habbits. Once you have a good foundation, practice, practice and more practice. Practicing is going to be the only way to become more consistant.

I agree completely. Find someone to watch you and help you out. Practice is the best method.

A place to start being more Consistent is in your pre-shot routine.
Make a set of things you do before making your shot, it will help you focus
        on making the shot later.
Me I pick up my ball with my towel on my grip hand, so I don't get oil on my fingers or thumb. I then wipe my ball off.
Next I rub my sliding foot on the aproach to make sure its going to slide.
Then before I step on the aproach I plan my shot.
That way I can then get up there and just focus on making that shot.

Also getting a coach will help or just someone who can sit back and watch you bowl. Who can point out if you changed how you made a shot.

        Then practice....

          wow....

so i read everyone's advice and then yesterday ended up going out and playing a few games with a friend of mine. I didn't really practice any of the techniques/tips you guys gave because i wanted to just score as well as i could with the technique i have now. The reason i reply is because i ended up bowling my highest series I've done...

          190 - 204 - 181 - 180 = 755

          I'm a model of inconsistency!

the best tip i can give you right now, is practice the ¨Free Armsing... drill it in now so you dont have to break a bad habit later.. by this, i mean do not muscle the ball:: once you push of, the ball should swing as freely as a pendulum. your pushoff direction will dictate where the ball goes::: your pushoff height (and gravity) will dictate your ball speed: for a curve hold your hand as ifyour shaking hands and keep it like that throughout the intire swing. dont try to add extra spin untill your consistant like this:

but i just cannot stress the Free Armswing enough to any bowler of any skill level: its that important:

also; think about all the variables involved from the push off to the release: and think of how you can increqse the consistcy of eqch varible individually: and be prepared to bowl some bad games at the beginning:: but if you follow all these tips (mine and others above) you will gain that consistancy quickly:

sorry for all the typos and punctuation: im in france right now and the keyboards over here are different: AZERTY instead of QWERTY. Ill be back next week and will draw the winner of the April contest then:

            cheers,
            James

              james...

thanks so much for the advice. I've been working on my armswing for about 3 weeks now and its a def. help. My release is the new thing that i'm working on and i'll try the handshake method sometime soon. Thanks much.
