Coming from a bowling family, I was thrilled to get my 3 kids into a junior league this season even if they started a bit late. The youngest, Kitty - 6 years old, does the bumpers and does enjoy it but since she's the only bumper she could enjoy it more. The oldest, Amanda - 12 years old also enjoys it but is more a person who bowls right now than a bowler. She averages around 90+. The kid, Zack - 10 years old, considers himself a bowler through and through. After buying him a TZone, bag and shoes and averagiing 100+ for the first half of the season, he started working on a hook. He's a lefty, which is also cool. Santa brought him a Brunswick Slingshot Resin ball and our local pro drilled it out as a fingertip, complete with inserts. The kid has averaged 125+ in his practice sessions with the new riock and scored a nice 166 in the fold. He is excited for the dad/kid tournament on New Years Day even though dad will be bowling near scratch (avg 204) and even more excited for the second half. He is goaling to get his average up to at least a 125, is already looking forward to spring leagues and then ultimately next Fall. A bowling life is a great life. Cheers!

Bitter Sweet
Hello again. I posted a direct message to you about being happy you have all 3 children bowling. This post is about the sad part of your post, and that is your 6 year old, Kitty, bowling alone. It is sad that there aren't more kids bowling. Just think forward a few years, and if Kitty is the only child in bumpers then who is going to fill the spaces later in the leagues for the older children?Originally posted by merkong View PostThe youngest, Kitty - 6 years old, does the bumpers and does enjoy it but since she's the only bumper she could enjoy it more.
My father, with the help of my "sometimes great insights" has formed and is trying to grow what he says is a grass roots movement to help stop the decline in youth bowling and start to grow it as a sport. Because of me sharing with him how kids communicate the most these days he has been growing an audience of competitive bowlers of all ages from across the country that have Twitter accounts. He is also getting Coaches, Bowling Centers, Pro Shops, Youth Directors anyone that has anything to doe with youth bowling to follow. He has been working on a website/blog that is beginning to come together. He has posted 3 short blogs so far that really begin to explain about him, and why he is doing this.
Anyone reading that cares about the future of this sport should give him a visit at US Youth Bowling and fill out the information form he put on the front page and follow him on his Twitter account if you have one, if not and you already use text people, get a Twitter account it's free. Anyway his you can see his account here . Go ahead an look, it doesn't hurt.
I hope to bowl in college someday, and I may have my own children in the future. I really hope that bowling still exists so that my son(s) or daughter(s) can enjoy it as much as I have. Again good luck to you and your children. Remember what I said in my personal message to you about them having fun.
